Aikaterini Gegisian is a visual artist, filmmaker, educator, and researcher. Her expanded collage practice spans across various mediums, extending from film and photography to installation and textile design. After obtaining a PhD by practice (University of Westminster, 2014), focusing on the Essay Film, she conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Pennsylvania (US), Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen (Austria) and the Library of Congress (US). She has taught photography, film and new media across a number of UK universities and was a guest lecturer in a range of institutions in Greece, Austria, US and Japan. Gegisian’s contributions to contemporary art have been widely recognised, with her works featured in prestigious international exhibitions, including the 56th Venice Biennale, where she, together with a group of diasporic artists, represented the Armenian Pavilion and received the Golden Lion for best national participation. Her short films have been exhibited internationally including ISFF Oberhausen, Videoformes, Kasseller Documentary Film Festival, Beirut Art Center, 8th Brighton Photo Biennale, The Whitworth, Tallin Photomonth among others. Her art has been showcased in major museums and galleries worldwide, from the Mathaf (Museum of Modern Arab Art) in Doha, ICP (International Center of Photography) in New York, National Arts Museum of China in Beijing, MOMus-Museum of Modern Art in Thessaloniki, IVAM (The Institut Valencià d’Art Modern) in Valencia, to the BALTIC in Newcastle. Further her works are in the collections of Victoria & Albert Museum, Frac de Pays de la Loire, Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art, MOMus Thessaloniki, California Museum of Photography.
