Anne-Marie Howat – Course Leader. After graduating from her degree and MA in Textiles, Anne-Marie pursued a variety of roles and projects within textiles and design, predominantly using her skill set of design, embroidery and surface manipulation. Anne-Marie has been employed as a full-time print designer in the UK’s fashion industry, (high street brands including the Conran Studios and M&S). She was employed as a freelance designer for many years (agents in London UK and New York USA, selling internationally for trends and for design sales).
As a designer/maker for interiors and large-scale commissions for public spaces Anne-Marie worked with clients in the UK, Germany and Holland (these include a textiles installation at Lingen Town House, Grand Hall, entrance textiles installation for Derby Dance Center, and prints for interiors and a large scale private commission for the Rothschild family home in London). Anne-Marie has gained awards for her couture fashion fabrics e.g. Vogue Conte Nast Publication & Texprint Awards, and for her work in interiors e.g. furnishing fabric award from House and Gardens – New Designer Award and has exhibited at stands at international textile trade shows.
Invention in design spurred an interest in teaching and communication. She became a lecturer on a variety of courses, however the textile specialism is where her depth of knowledge lay and in 2007 she established the degree course at the Arts University Bournemouth which she continues to lead today.
