Kelly graduated from Winchester School of Art with a degree in Printed Textiles, and since completed MA study and a Teaching Qualification for Higher Education (PGCE). Kelly’s area of expertise is positioned in printed textiles for both fashion and interior applications as well as trend research and analysis.
Kelly worked in New York for a number of years at senior level designing printed fabrics and accessories for many high-profile fashion brands and department stores, managing brand licences and production. With over 15 years experience in textiles Kelly has also freelanced with London agents creating print collections for commercial applications , exhibited at major trade shows such as Premiere Vision (Paris and New York) and trend roles for WGSN. Kelly became a Lecturer at Arts University Bournemouth in 2012 teaching across all three years on the BA (Hons) Textiles course with focus upon digital techniques with the integration of core skills in hand drawing, colour, hand finishing and design.
Kelly continues to work on freelance projects for the American and UK market alongside creating Fashion Illustrations, recently exhibiting in New York, Miami, Paris and London and producing artwork for brands and Fashion magazines.
Kelly parallels her experience of live industry practice with the student experience through simulated projects that cross trend, interior concept design and textiles for fashion aiming to promote visionary design coupled with industry ready skills. In the projects undertaken in recent years, students have had the opportunity to develop a range of attitudes and skills that can be seen to enrich and develop those associated with academic work, for example skills in communication, presentation, professionalism and negotiation with teams and/or clients. This engagement acts as a bridge between the university and industry both on and off campus allowing students to test their learning as research, creative ideas and application whilst benefiting from the support of the university and building future professional networks.
