Monica graduated from the University of Architecture in Venice (IUAV). Before starting her career in teaching she worked as both Architect and Interior Architect for many years designing exhibition spaces, retail shops, restaurants, and hotels. In Italy, she worked for Grassi Architects designing in the specialist retail sector that included projects for international brands such as Max Mara, Calvin Klein, Benetton, and Prada. After moving to the UK in 2011 she worked at Creed Design, designing for the Hotel and Hospitality sectors.
In 2013 Monica commenced working as a lecturer in Interior Design at Birmingham City University. This included teaching overseas in Hong Kong where she gained extensive experience working with international students. Throughout this period, she was also involved in setting up a Material Library for 3D courses and the Erasmus Coordinator for the School.
In April 2016 she joined AUB where she was the IA&D Level 5 Leader and a leading participant in the AUB Human research group.
Since June 2022 Monica is the Interior Architecture and Design Course Leader.
Monica has been associated with Architects for Health and managed to get Interior Architecture and Design students meaningfully involved in the Architects for Health national students’ competition.
This has progressively led to involvement in live/real project scenarios involving the NHS and its partners. Both, the students' and Monica's involvement has resulted in projects that have provided valuable connections with the NHS and its partners.
In April 2016 Monica joined AUB where she is the Interior Architecture and Design Level 5 Leader
In 2013 Monica commenced working as a lecturer in BA (Hons)Interior Design at Birmingham City University. This included teaching overseas in Hong Kong.
Monica published for the internal journal Creative Pedagogies Imprint 2020 an article on the subject of students transition in Higher Education: 'Identifying new opportunities to support student transitions into Higher Education L4 Students in Interior Architecture and Design: Defining transition in art and design disciplines.'
Monica has been associated with Architects for Health and she managed to get IAD students involved in the Architects for Health national students’ competition.
This has progressively led to involvement in live/real projects scenarios involving the NHS and its partners. This has resulted in projects that have provided valuable connections with the NHS and its partners.
Monica's research aim is to promote ‘Integration of public health and the built environment through embedding associate teaching and learning within Interior Architecture and Design at HE level’.
Teaching needs to refer back to the essential connections between the built environment and health and how the professions need to understand these linkages and their impact upon them.
