Following the completion of a BA (Hons) degree in Photographic Art at the University of Wales, Sophie turned her attentions to further study in the field of make-up. Having successfully achieved a qualification in Theatrical and Media Make-up, Sophie worked as a freelance make-up artist for five years, initially in theatres such as The New Theatre and the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff. She gained further experience working on short films, and later promotional and editorial work.
Sophie has been part of AUB's Make-up for Media and Performance degree since its inception in 2009. Her role as technician involves facilitating the running of the studios, supporting academic staff in the delivery of the course and students in their learning and understanding of techniques.
Sophie is a technician for BA (Hons) Make-up for Media and Performance, and supports all year groups, in both taught lessons and by facilitating Studio Practice sessions. Sophie’s main role involves supporting both the academic staff in the delivery of the curriculum – through studio-based classes and workshop sessions – and supporting the students in their learning and understanding of the topics covered by each unit, and in the realisation of their project work. She is also involved in the essential administrative work required to keep the course running smoothly.
For seven years, Sophie taught a 10-week evening course through AUB’s Short Courses, entitled Introduction to Make-up for Film, TV and Theatre. This course ran regularly 2-3 times per year with extremely positive feedback and worked as both an informative leisure course and as a basis for people considering make-up as a future path of study or career.
