Wayne joined Arts University Bournemouth as a Technical Demonstrator in September 2013 and has moved up to the post of Senior Lecturer. He comes from an art and design background, having completed a HND in Graphic Design. His experience prior to joining AUB includes 12 years experience working for clients such as Dorset Orthopaedic and Ortho Europe.
He specialised in making hyper-realistic, high-definition silicone prosthetic covers for amputees and patients with congenital limb loss. Wayne also works as a commercial freelance sculptor and an airbrush artist. Credits include The Grendel Toots, winner of Best Film at the Exeter Phoenix Film Festival (December 2013); Run it Off, a short film made with the association of AUB staff and students (2017); Treaters, a short film made in association with Treehouse Digital, as well as the first episode of Shelley, a three-part series in association with Treehouse Digital and Crypt TV.
After reaching the dizzying new heights of Senior Lecturer, I completed the PGCAP qualification, and have attained a HEA Fellowship, which has allowed me to better understand the academic process, and help bolster the continued high quality of teaching on the BA (Hons) Make-up for Media and Performance at AUB. During this post, I have also completed the MA in Fine Art, alongside my lecturing post, undertaken at AUB.
I have also taught bespoke sessions for BA (Hons) Visual Effects (VFX) for Film and Television, as well as workshops for BA (Hons) Animation Production, both at the AUB.
I have been involved in many short films working alongside current and former AUB staff as a make-up artist, as well as several short independent films with Treehouse Digital and Crypt TV. I also worked on the first season of Amazon's Carnival Row under one of our Industry Fellows, Nick Dudman.
Most recently, I have been involved in the first of a trilogy of films under the title Rubyboon, where I designed, sculpted, fabricated and puppeteered several characters.
Whilst in this post, I have been able to develop my skill base to become a more rounded and comprehensive make-up artist, as well as looking into the future developments within technology to push the subject into exciting new areas. My current research outputs are exploring the exciting new innovations and collaborations within the emerging medium of digital make-up and 3D printing, and how this can be taught as a new and developing industry practice to our students, both on our current BA and looking forward, into a Make-up MA.
My Current research focus is on the emerging application of digital technologies and 3D printing, to form a Hybrid approach to the application of these new technologies and how they align with the practice of Make-up.
